Matthew 25: Ministries accepts donations of empty plastic pill bottles for inclusion in shipments of medical supplies. Their pill bottle program fulfills the dual needs of improving medical care in developing countries and caring for our environment.
If you wish to have your prescription pill bottles shipped for reuse, they must fit the following criteria:
#5 plastic (any color is fine)
Plastic lids (can be child-resistant or easy-open)
We're always looking for volunteers to help sanitize prescription pill bottles from home! If you'd like to participate, please follow these steps:
If you've already got pill bottles to sanitize, great! If not, bags of bottles needing to be sanitized are available to be picked up during the Hub's open hours.
Verify that all bottles meet the above requirements for pill bottles for reuse.
Wash the bottles and lids in very hot water and dish soap (by hand or in the dishwasher) or boil to sanitize.
Rinse well to get rid of any remaining residue.
Dry the bottles and lids thoroughly (can be air-dried or dried with a clean cloth).
Replace the lids on the cleaned and dried bottles.
Place bottles in a large resealable bag marked "Clean bottles"
If you have any questions, please email volunteers@cintirrh.org
Please note: some prescription bottles are #1 or #2 plastics. These prescription bottles melt when sanitized in boiling water. Bring these rx bottles to the Hub and they will be processed for recycling.
If you have non-rx plastic bottles, please recycle curbside (so long as they are 3 inches or taller). Over the counter non-rx pill bottles (any number) that are 3” or smaller may be recycled at the Hub.
