WONDER-ful new art displayed on our 4th floor
When we say there’s always something new to look at on our 4th floor, we’re usually referring to the egg cartons, garden pots, office and school supplies, or other random things you can shop for in our reuse area. But today we want to talk about art!
There are several new pieces that have been installed in our 4th floor entry area that were completed by local student and Hub volunteer, Tyler Lorenzen. Tyler created the pieces as part of his art showcase last spring as he wrapped up his junior year at Elder.
His art showcase contained a range of materials sourced from the Hub– including the ink sponges from printer cartridges, electronic media, paint chip samples from our ZeroLandfill Cincinnati area, and bread clips. In fact, his piece “Wonder” utilized 100s of bread clips but it is noted that it is incomplete due to not enough red bread clips being recycled at the time of his project.
“After volunteering at the Hub, I’ve considered sustainability in many different ways from recycling more at home and at Elder. I’ve spoken with my art teachers and we are considering ways that students can recycle more at Elder and from our art classes.”
Tyler has spent summer vacation volunteering when possible at the Hub and we know we’ll continue to see him a bit during the school year, despite being an active member of the wrestling and football teams as well as involved in Art Club.
We are so grateful for his help at the Hub and for inspiring anyone who visits our 4th floor with his art showcase.
